House GOP “All of the Above” American Energy Act
Posted by Rep. John Boehner on June 25, 2009

There’s a better way to clean up our environment without risking millions of American job and punishing the middle class with higher taxes and higher energy costs.  The House Republican American Energy Act is our “All of the Above” strategy that will help us become energy independent, create jobs here at home and help clean up our environment.

The American Energy Act increases our domestic supply of energy by lifting restrictions on drilling in remote areas of Alaska and in deep ocean waters.  It also lets us go after the vast reserves of oil shale in the Intermountain West.  The plan also renews our commitment to clean- and emissions-free nuclear energy with a goal of building 100 new nuclear reactors over the next 20 years.  The American Energy Act also calls for revenue generated by the sale of leases to companies drilling for American oil and natural gas to be invested in renewable and alternative energy sources while simultaneously encouraging conservation through proven tax incentives.

The American people don’t want a new national energy tax.  They especially don’t want a tax that will send American jobs overseas to countries that do not have levy punitive taxes on companies.  The American Energy Act will boost American energy production across the board while investing in future fuels that will power us into the 21st Century.

I'll keep it simple - vote "NO" on National Energy Tax, "Cap and Trade" or any bill that increases cost to producers and consumers and does not promote use of our own natural resources: ANWAR, offshore drilling, nuclear power, etc. Its absurd that we can tell Iran that they are entitled to develop a nuclear capability and yet the U.S. voluntarily strangles itself by not developing its own resources. Wind, solar, geothermal and other such souces are a smoke screen and a waste of time other than for academic research and niche applications.

Congressman... I urge you to vote no on "Cap & Trade" and push to develop our own natural resources including clean coal tecnology and drilling for oil and natural gas offshore and in ANWAR. We also need to pursue nuclear power and construction of additional refining capacity in this country. This is a matter of national security!!!

Tomorrow's vote on National Energy Tax is critical. The White House needs to hear a resounding "NO"!
  • Bruce Fig commented on 6/26/2009
I don't know what the answer is but I know its not a smoke and mirrors "cap and trade". We as a country should be exploring and using every energy source we can to get us off foreign oil. I don't understand how the Democrats can't see that. Even the Mideast will run out of oil someday, we need to be ready now! Vote no

I agree there should not be more taxes and I am behind you 100 percent on the no vote for the "Cap and Trade" bill. Thank you for what you do for us. Another hope is for the Republican party to get their act together for a stronger party that people will vote for.Voting for the rights of the people and not just politics.

A NO vote must be made on the "Cap & Trade".

Congressman, I know you are working hard to defeat this monstrous tax increase. Now we are told an amendment has been added which will have not been read by everyone at the time of the vote. Are there any democrats that will be voting against this tax legislation. Why do we want to make Al Gore and his comrades rich on the derative market?
  • Mervin Butts commented on 6/26/2009
I encourage you to support a NO vote on "Cap and Trade"

I mistakenly said no on the american energy act. I mean't No to the cap and trade bill. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks!

We don't need a cap on America much less trade it to other lands. It's time to stand up for no more taxes. Enough is enough, this administration in a very short time has blown trillions of dollars to bail out corporations which will be paid on the backs of our grandchildren, yet have done nothing to help the American people. The jobs aren't out there, they didn't come back because of these bailouts, and unemployment keeps getting worse. Folks Its time that the silent majority starts to make some noise. Parts of this administration have even deemed myself and fellow veterans as a risk to national security, this is utter bunk. So I say no more taxes, Help America and the people of the United States, not give what's left of this great nation away to other nations. Yes enough is enough......Vote no John, and rally others in Washington to do the same. Put a end to Ms. Pelosie's reing of terror against the American people.

Congressman, What an absolute disappointment! Now that I am nearing retirement, I wonder if my wife and I will be able to afford to live comfortably with the prospect of higher engergy and fuel costs. For some reason the Obama administration and Pelosi and her crowd are bent on destroying the most prosperous country in the world. The eight repbulicans who voted with the majority need to be identified at every turn and run out of office. Conservative principles of the Reagan era need to be restored. We are running out of time if the country is to be saved from this liberal agenda which appears to be designed to destroy the liberty which many have fought and died for.

Congressman, I understand from the news reports this morning, that the health care bill will not be available for review prior to membership vote. Isn't this against the house rules? More subterfuge and deceipt by the Speaker of The House. How do we stop this? The future of the contry is in the hands of the most deceipful duplicitious group of leftists the country has ever seen. Lets us know how to put a stop to this.

On Sept. 20 on NBC’s "Meet the Press," House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio claimed that according to the Department of Treasury, the Democrats’ proposed cap-and-trade system would be costly for American families: Boehner, Sept. 20: It’s a cap-and-trade system, this big giant tax on the American people that this week, we just find out, the Treasury Department said will cost the average family $1,700 per year. That’s not true. That estimate came from CBS News blogger Declan McCullagh, not the Treasury Department. McCullagh, writing for the blog "Taking Liberties," said that "[a] previously unreleased analysis prepared by the U.S. Department of Treasury says the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to $200 billion a year. At the upper end of the administration’s estimate, the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year." McCullagh was referring to an internal Treasury Department memo. Christopher Horner, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, which describes itself as a "public interest group dedicated to free enterprise and limited government," obtained a redacted copy of the previously unreleased document via a Freedom of Information Act request. (The Treasury later released an unredacted copy.) But the $1,761 figure that McCullagh referred to doesn’t appear in the document CEI obtained.
