America Has the Right to Know the Consequences of Speaker Pelosi's Nat'l Energy Tax
Posted by Jessica R. Towhey on June 26, 2009

House Democrats didn't want the American people to understand the true impact of Speaker Pelosis 1,500-page national energy tax. So Rep. Boehner took to the House floor and read portions of it to the American people, explaining how it would to raise electricity prices, increase gasoline prices, and ship American jobs overseas to countries like China and India.

House Democrats didn't much like it either, and they tried to shut him down. But Boehner asked Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) and other Democrats: Don't you think the American people expect us to understand what's in the bill before we vote on it?  Click the video below to watch.

Mr. Boehner- Thank you for having the courage to speak out against the strong arm tactics of the democrats. I thank you for listening to the people that you represent, and for truly looking out for our best interests. As a citizen of the state of Ohio, I am worried about if my company will decide it might be better suited for competing globally in another country, with the passage of this bill, I will unlikely be able to ever sell my home, which happens to be a 100 year old farmhouse. I will turn 31 years old this year, and my husband and I can't believe that we are watching our country be destroyed from the inside out. I only wish that more members of the government in Washington would stand up and do the right thing. God bless you, and keep up the good work. Kristina Horvath

I think you struck a nerve with your opponents! They said you went on a “rant!” They didn't like the fact that you actually tried to READ the bill before voting! I guess they didn't want you or anyone esle to know what was really in there! Thank you for bringing it to their attention! Please tell your Republican colleagues who voted for HR 2454 their names are being circulated! Thank you again for fighting this bill for middle class, TAX PAYING, Americans.

You are my new Real Life Hero Rep. Boehner! I watched your speech in its entirety and you pointed out way to many flaws in this "Cap and Trade" bill to be passed. Thank you for being a Champion for the American People Sir. You are truly a Knight in Shining armor defending this Country against the deterioration of every freedom we know of and have. Freedom is taken bit by bit. And this Climate Bill is a Landslide of abusive taxes to the American People. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for standing up for what you believe in, and standing up for the American peoples rights to Freedom. God bless you sir. Stay a champion. Your fulfillment is truth, please stay that course. Amen. ~Jeffrey Parker From Washington State 7th District P.S. I wish Mc. McDermott had your passion and insight. Growing up in a Liberal setting, I voted for McDermott, Gregoire, Murray, and all other Dems. As well as Press. Barrack Obama. Never again. Never again after this.

I can't believe we have elected officials that still care about this sort of thing. It's refreshing and I wish we had more lawmakers such as yourself. If I were in your district, I would vote for you every time. Please post a link to your full video, I would like to see it as well.

I did not have the pleasure of hearing your hour-long expose of of this Energy Tax Bill, but I have heard about it and I want to thank you for standing up for Americans across this great nation. I live in NY and have no real representation. Please keep fighting for us.
  • Elton Reynolds commented on 6/29/2009
Again, we request that you provide/post a link to the entire video of your great effort to force your fellow representatives to acknowledge and understand what they are voting on. This is the best thing you have done in eight months...finnally you have shown you heard us...YES! We expect that on all bills... that every person voting will read and understand what they are voting on...DO NOT ALLOW the fascist to WALK ALL OVER the REPUBLICAN party. We put you in office to represent us...not just when it is easy..rather...We the People put you in office to represent us WHEN IT IS HARD. Your efforts today, (On the Cap and Trade Ammendment) are appreciated...but more importantly...they are needed so that we may put this information into the hands of everyone in America...the media will not do this...BUT WE THE PEOPLE will if you give us the chance.

I called my Representative twice to tell him that this was an awful bill.. I am happy to report that eve though he was a Democrat he voted against the bill. I have a letter to the editor going into the local paper on the provision about not being able to sell your house until it is "energy efficient" by federal government standards.
  • Cheri Hahn commented on 6/29/2009
Thank you, Rep. Boehner for your common sense, and for looking out for the interests of us "middle Americans". I was so impressed watching you on C-SPAN last week as you read through ludicrous sections of the Bill and then translated what the impact would be on the wallets and freedoms of American citizens and businesses. Your remarks should be required reading by the Senate before they vote. Thank God someone in Congress "gets it" and isn't afraid to stand up and speak out. I'm proud that you're from Ohio. If we didn't need you so much in Congress, I'd recommend that you run for Governor of Ohio. We need help there, too.
  • Michael De Stefano commented on 6/29/2009
John, as a former neighbor of yours, I am proud of what you are doing to save our country and standing up for the freedom that America is and always should be.We need more people like you in the most troubling times I have ever seen in my liftime. I don't know where we are headed but I trust you to set the right course.
  • Gerry Hartsoe commented on 6/29/2009
Good voite and thank you. We the silent majority are awake and watching. We know the ones that are voteing against our rights and freedoms and we will be voting against them the next time.
  • Carol FEll commented on 6/29/2009
Bravo---Way to go--Please don't stop "ranting"----The people in our country need to here this and not all of the "coverup" garbarge being strewn about by the Democrats.

To Rep. Boehner, from the bottom of my heart thank you! We the people are fighting to bring about change, doing what we can to stop whats happening to our Great Country. Most of the daily news is shocking, discouraging, and dis-hearting, but you dear Sir, are a bright star, a glimmer of hope. Just knowing that there is one in Washington who actually is a decent man, fighting for the people and for what is right for this country, gives us hope and renewed energy to continue the fight. We Ohioians are very proud of you. I still have a real problem with signing a bill that has not been read by all first. Can so many have so little regard for the people of this Country and the Country its self ? While my husband and I are in our late 60's, we and many, many others will continue to do what we can to help this great Country. May God continue to bless and keep you....... Kindly, Barbara

Thank you Rep Boehner for your efforts on behalf of all American people and for standing up for freedom in this great country! My representative, Betty Sutton, just doesn't get it and voted for this horrible bill! Shame on her and all the others who joined her in voting for this piece of nonsense! Please continue to fight the good fight for us. I am grateful for your service!

2012 is not very far off...You have my vote!!!!!!
  • Bill Schiman commented on 7/1/2009
Congressman Boehner, you are a rare glimmer of hope for all of us in this world today. Yes, we American people need to know that any bill that is put before congress has been not only read, but understood, and that it cannot be voted on until that happens. That is not only the way it should be, but is also only common sense is it not? We have a system in this country that supposedly gives us all a voice in how our country is run. But what I see today has seemingly shattered that ideal. Our founding fathers would shudder at this. Thank you for standing up for us! It is my hope that someday soon, we can see a "real change" from the "Change that was offered".
  • Alan Matuszak commented on 7/1/2009
Thank you very much for your efforts to stop the madness Mr. Boehner. The fact that 219 US Representatives voted for this bill makes it clear to me that our federal government no longer represents us. The only hope is that we can stop this in the Senate before this bill becomes a law and the last bits of freedom we still have are gone. Mr. Boehner, please continue to fight for Americans and for freedom in the House. Thank you.
  • Jerry Moore commented on 7/1/2009
Thanks for standing up for us "little people" if all the congressmen were like you ,this country would be a lot better off, I have voted for you every time you come up for election and will continue to do so, I also believe you should run for president in 2012
  • debbie shellhaas commented on 7/1/2009
Thank you for standing up for Americans. I am sickened at the way things are getting passed on to us. This is a massive con job by the dems that now have control. Praying that changes soon. We are praying for you Rep. Boehner. Do what you can to help the people who are paying for this.
  • Denise Bursby commented on 7/1/2009
Thank you. There are a many people out there who only know the news as they see it on channels 3, 5 and 8; all liberal views. What irritates me, is for those of us who do read, who do look up information, and who do let our representatives know what we think, it is ignored by the majority of our representatives. You have done a great service, and I hope it gets more publicity than it has gotten. Also, you use plain English that I think every American can understand if they want too. People need to know and be aware that the Democratic House (at least for the last while) has been rushing through legislation and has no understanding of it other than their interests are promised to be met. I sincerely hope that you run for the Presidency next term. Thank you again.
  • Phil Solarz commented on 7/1/2009
I think "Thank You Mr. Boehner" says it all. I have had it with ploiticians in general. We have a few good representatives in the house, you are surely one of them as is my congressman Thad McCotter. My slogan since the stimulus bill was also passed without reading it is "Those who do not read, should not lead" Phil Solarz

Thank you representative Boehner for standing up, sticking you neck out, putting yourself out on a limb, what ever you want to call it. We need more people like you in Washingtion. Please continue to look out for the "average middle class American". And yes, we are behind you 100%, you are not alone! With all due respect, have you thought of running for President? With sincere admiration, Charlene Smith

Way to go John! This is why we in Ohio elected you...maybe, just maybe your ability to question and chide will rub off on some other conservatives!! Thanks again.
  • Mary Seippel commented on 7/2/2009
When I clicked, the video was not available. But I do want to say thank you very much for doing your job of reading the bill and then making others aware of the problems with it. I can't believe it passed after you made them aware. We'll all have to pray that the Senate will be a different story.
  • Steve Marcum commented on 7/2/2009
Thank you Congressman Boehner ! You are one of my dwindling number of true American patriot heroes ! I look forward to you becoming Speaker of the House in 2010 when all Americans broom the rats out of Congress. I also can't wait to support you and Sarah Palin for a White House run in 2012. God Bless you sir. Sincerely, Steve Marcum (and the other 3 legally registered voters in my household) :-)
  • Jennifer Sauerwein commented on 7/2/2009
Representative Boehner, thank you for all the work you do to preserve our freedoms in this great country while the Democrats try to take them away. Our country is headed towards Communism or worse, not just Socialism (which is bad enough!), and we Republicans have to fight to keep our country free. It's ridiculous that we even have to do this, but if we don't do anything, the left-wingers will win and destroy America. Thank you so much, Mr. Boehner!!
  • Peggy Williams commented on 7/2/2009
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! We (the American people) have been begging and waiting for this; a Congressman with the cahones to stand up against these bullies! They are trying to ram everything down our throats now! Right now! Because they know, next year they're gone! We all need to stand and speak, yeall if we have to! We can no longer be the 'silent majority'! We are losing our country!! Thank you, again, Mr. Boehner!
  • Pamela Eikleberry commented on 7/4/2009
Thank you Rep. Boehner for standing up for our country and our rights.Too bad some of our republicans sold their votes and it's too bad most all of the Democrats voted for the bill also. I truly hope the senate does a better job at voting no on this bill. We know who voted for and against this bill. I hope the voters remember next election. Thank you again for standing up for what is right. Let's pray that the Senate gets it right.
  • Ruthan Andrade commented on 7/5/2009
Thank you for following thru on your committment to the oath you took to represent your constituents! Please tell me what I can do, in the months ahead, to ensure that people of your quality of leadership will be elected in 2010. We must turn out those who are leading this country to destruction. • Guy Archer commented on 7/6/2009
Thank you for standing up the way we Conservative/Republicans should be standing up against all that the Liberal/Democrats are trying to do to this country. Fight every step of the way. When they sling mud, sling back with the truth instead of taking the "higher" ground of turning the other cheek. Those days are over and we're on our heels because of it. Thank you!
  • Marcel de Graaf commented on 7/7/2009
Rep. Boehner, I want to thank you for standing up against the Waxman bill. This country and middle class American cannot afford a bill which introduces indirect taxation on people whose paycheck are shrinking by the hour, while special interest groups, large businesses and some wealthy individuals benefit off the CAP and Trade derivatives that will be established as a result of this bill. I do not understand how and why these "elected representatives" of the people cannot see this. I am glad you did. I just hope our senators have the fortitude to kill this bill. Everyone, contact your senators and tell them to vote NO on this bill. Those special interest groups, businesses and people who are pushing this bill want to turn this country from it's Republic and free market ideals to a facist/social society (just compare Germany in the 30's and 40's to the US today). We as citizens should not and cannot allow this to happen to this great country. Rep. Boehner, your action against this bill is a small but great step towards moving this country back on track. Please continue to do more. Protect the middle class, save our sovereignty (SOS)!
